Grade 904L is austenitic stainless steel. Compared with 316L, its added molybdenum is more resistant to local chloride erosion (pitting and crevices), especially the added copper is effective against all concentrations of sulfuric acid. Its high alloying content may also make it more resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Its low carbon content makes 904L resistant to welding sensitization and prevents intergranular corrosion.
The 904L alloy is used in piping systems, pollution control equipment, heat exchangers, and bleaching systems.
SS904L material can be made into rolls, plates, strips, lines, tubes, profiles, bars, Angle steel and other shapes.
